Meet the Horses

Carmel

2009 Haflinger Mare- Chestnut w/ Pangare

Carmel came to us in March 2019, with Ginger, from the Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue in Pilot Point, TX.  The Thomas Foundation received Carmel from a donor in August of 2018. Carmel is turning into a wonderful trail horse. She’s a favorite of all of us due to her spunk and energy. This girl could go all day long, and if she could just figure out that we don’t want to to immediately upon mounting, that would be great. Carmel is trustworthy in water, across ditches, and around wild animals and other livestock. She’s also fun in the arena, knowing how to sidepass and enjoying the occsasional jump over a cross rail (in a western saddle, lol).

Hailey

2015 OTTB Mare- Brown

Hailey arrived in summer of 2021, from the Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue in Pilot Point, TX.  The Thomas Foundation received Hailey from another rescue that had to shut down in early 2021. Hailey is Kathryn’s horse, through and through. The bond shared between them is unique. Hailey seems to know what Kathryn wants before she asks it and I love seeing their relationship grow. Hailey is turning into a fantastic horse and Kathryn hopes to use her in 4-H. She also participates in parades, and loves a long trail day… we’re working on her being willing to walk into water and tolerate loud music (drumlines) we sometimes encounter in parades.

Ginger

2012 OTTB Mare- Sorrel

Ginger (Jockey Club- "One Crafty Chic") came to us in March 2019 from the Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue. She is great for adults and kids who aren't afraid of heights, because she's our tallest horse. Ginger is super sweet and loves to get treats and attention. She seems to respond well to her name. We're continuing to work with Ginger on standing still, as she is a very impatient girl, but she is actively used in lessons and we trust her with everyone.

Dozer

2008 Grade Gelding- Sorrel

Dozer is a donated horse through a contact of the Thomas Foundation Second Chance Horse Rescue. He is very broke but seems to be having some back issues at this point in his life. He has a very defined “glory mark” on his withers (scar/white haired saddle sore). Dozer gets his name not because he’s a bulldozer, but because he likes to doze. He’s incredibly lazy and takes a lot of effort to get him moving. Dozer rides in a hackaore only, as he hates the bit. He’s a tall boy but has a relatively short back. We’re hopeful that he can carry heavy riders (including Alex) on long trail days, but we have to get him back in shape first.

Sonny

2018 Reservation mustang- Palomino

Sonny is another Thomas Foundation adoption. He originally came with Sox (who went back to TX due to soundness issues) in summer of 2020, and we think he was about 2 years old at the time. We don't know his birthday, so we guessed his age based on his dentition. He’s a smart gelding and is eager to learn. Sonny is in training now for saddle starting.

Elsa

2008 Grade Mare- Maximum white pinto

Elsa came to us in November of 2018 from the Peabody Kill Pen. Our friend, Jessica Gabel, assisted with her bail price and the emaciated and almost ugly mare began her transformation into our unicorn. She's one of our lesson horses and is great with kids and adults. Elsa can sometimes be a bit "icy" towards receiving affection, but its really just shyness. She's learning that human hands often have great things.

Felicity

2003 BLM Mustang Mare- Blue Roan

"Lissy" came to us in June of 2018 from the Kaufman Kill Pen with the help of Grey Oaks Equine Sanctuary. Felicity means "happiness" and is derived from the Latin word for "good fortune." We picked that name for her because we believed her life with us would bring her happiness, as she was in very poor health. She's one of our lesson horses and is who everyone starts out riding. Lissy has a quirky personality and is always looking for treats.
