AS1C N/N G6S Normal
Edison is a buck kid we’ve been hoping for for several years, out of our beloved Kansas Bluestem Ethel. We desired to breed an AS1C N/N line of Nubians early on in our breeding program, and hoped that Ethel would provide us with a G6S normal, ASIC N/N homebred buckling. After breeding her to several different AS1C N-carrying bucks over the years, Eddie was born in her fifth freshening. He has the width and fast growing build of his dam line, but appears to have his sire’s dairyness and well-conformed general appearance.
Edison’s dam, Ethel, has been one of our top producers since her first lactation as a yearling. She easily maintains over a gallon a day in production without any extra needs in our hot summer months. She also boasts a wide frame, with an LA score of 38 in rump width. We have seen her daughters and granddaughters score well in Rump Width, and expect that Edison will pass that width on to his daughters as well. Ethel’s udder is very supple, with nice size teats and excellent orifices. The strength of her udder attachments could be stronger, but we haven’t seen negative effects on her udder health because of them.
Edison’s sire, Blissberry Macapuno Sunrise, is son to SGCH Blissberry Rise & Shine 7*M. Rise & Shine appraised EEEE 92 as a four year old, and has an incredibly high (UH 48), wide (RUA 38) and well attached (MSL 30, FU 32) udder. Her lactations as a three and four year old doe were very impressive, showing us that her pretty mammary can also milk extremely well. Rise & Shine’s full sister, Rain or Shine, was the ADGA 2019 National Show 2nd place/1st Udder Three Year-Old, a member of Blissberry’s 2nd place Dairy Herd, a member of Blissberry’s 1st place Best Three Senior Does and was named BEST NUBIAN UDDER!! Edison’s sire’s sire is Blissberry Coconut Cooler who also comes from a long line of excellent udder genetics. It is our hope that Edison bring his sire’s udder genetics to all of Edison’s progeny in our herd. If we can achieve the width of Ethel, and the udders of Edison’s sire line, we will be going in an excellent direction.
