Coffee joined our herd when she was a dry yearling, as a birthday gift to Kathryn. We purchased Coffee on the merit of her owner and the promise that she’d have an excellent udder… we are not disappointed in her udder at all! She has a very smoothly blended foreudder, a nice globular overall shape, well placed teats of a nice size, and a beautiful arch. If we were going to be picky, we’d ask for a little higher rear udder and a softer udder texture… plus an increase in production (which means she also needs to give us more than singles).

Coffee is not the largest doe in stature or strength. She’s an average size and has nice elasticity to her skin. Her overall dairyness and angularity needs improvement, so we’ve chosen bucks for her breedings that should offer that. Coffee is not the biggest fan of traveling to shows, so she doesn’t always go along with us, but when she does, she gets great comments.

Breeding & Kidding @ Bluestem Acres

2025- Coffee was bred to Food4Thought MardiGras Flasher for her first freshening. She delivered buck/doe twins on her due date, about 48 hours after we induced labor with lutalyse. The kids were healthy and Coffee delivered them easily. The doe kid was retained in Kathryn’s show string, Kitkats Parade Mochaccino. Coffee went on to peak at 6.0 pounds on milk per day, roughly 70 days into her lactation. We milked her for a shortened lactation, so she could be prepared for her laparoscopic artificial insemination breeding for her spring of 2026 kids.

2026- Coffee was LapAI’d to Lakeshore Full Throttle at SEK Genetics. She delivered a single, large (9.4 pounds) four days past her due date. We induced her labor for this delivery as well, as we were worried about the size of the kid, being so far overdue. Labor began roughly 32 hours past the lutalyse shot this time around. Given her size, the doeling was quite difficult for Coffee to deliver despite being in the normal nose and toes birth position. We were able to get her pulled out and there were not any adverse affects on Coffee or the doe kid. Coffee’s peak milk for her second lactation was just over nine pounds of milk per day. She has continue milking strongly through the hot summer weather and will be dried off after a normal length lactation. The doe kid has been retain in Kathryn’s show string, Kitkats Unchecked Espresso.

2027- We bred Coffee in early August 2026 to Mdnt WK U4rik Glow, owned by Brandy Rigg. The goal with this breeding was to improve Coffee’s dairyness in the offspring, and still maintain the udder shape. Kathryn again plans to retain the first doe kid. It is likely that we will offer Coffee for sale at some point during 2027. When that occurs will be dependent upon if/when Linear Appraisal will be in our area.
